Wk 5 discus Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Wk 5 discus - Essay Example Since the relationship between the counselor and the individual is going well, the counselor should not have "pretended" that they knew about it. Instead, it should have been a topic that was discussed in the session. Resolving the presenting issues is not possible because of the lack of knowledge. A counselor in this situation must be careful because their ideas and values will be challenged by this practice. It is not likely that this woman will adopt the American way of being or that she will accept that she should not complete the practice. What the counselor can do is help her to examine the choice and all of the issues surrounding it but ultimately the client will need to make the choice. The counselor must be in an emotional space for themselves that allows the client to make her decision without coercion by the counselor. As much as this is a terrible and demeaning practice for women, it is not something that is going to change overnight. If the counselor can assist the client emotionally in going through with the process or emotions after it (if she decides to go through with it) this would be the most beneficial way for both the client and the counselor. Female circumcision is not right and it is terrible for the individual but it is something that many women are cul turally bred to

Social Development of Late Adulthood Essay Example for Free

Social Development of Late Adulthood Essay The Social Development in Late Adulthood LaTricia R. Scott BHS 325 May 20, 2013 Jane Winslow, MA, LMFT Social Development in Late Adulthood Late Adulthood is a time in people’s lives when they come to terms with their lives and reevaluate what they have done or accomplished in the lieu of what they still would like to accomplish for the remainder of their lives. During this stage of life adults around the ages of 65 begin to experience a variety of changes in their physical appearance and a decline in their health. The process of aging in an individual occurs at different speeds and during this stage older adults are being treated as second-class citizens especially by younger adults. The skin begins to wrinkle at an accelerated rate, the senses lose their acuity, and the voice becomes less powerful. Other physical changes occur like the loss of teeth, bones become brittle, joints become stiff, and the graying of hair. Cognitive changes that occur in late adulthood are the loss of memory, mostly the working memory or short-term memory. In general, those in later adulthood are less able to integrate numerous forms of information at once. Though late adulthood has its challenges it can often be a time of rewarding experiences with family, friends, and reconnecting socially to the world. This paper will address the changes in late adulthood and help potential clients and their family’s better understand this stage of life and how to proactively deal with all the changes. Role and Social Position In late adulthood our society sees older adults as useless and non-existent, older adults have transitioned from operating as productive and viable workers in the workforce to facing the myths that older adults are less productive, out of touch, and incompetent. During this stage older adults begin to retire from their lifetime jobs and find the current workforce to be very intimidating and discriminatory. Living Accommodations Adjustment from Work to Retirement Female Menopause is when every woman stops menstruating and can no longer bear children. Menopause happens due to the decrease of estrogen in the female body which then leads to the Marriage, Family, and Peer Relationships Social Policies Conclusion In middle adulthood there are many changes that occur physically, psychologically, and socially as explained in the above passages. Yet, some say that this is the best time of their life, they experience enhanced self-confidence, great sex lives, career success, and enhanced brain functions. Middle age adults are better equipped to make better life choices and decisions and not worry so much about the negative parts of life. Their problem solving skills are greater which allows them to reason more creatively. They are able to enjoy sex freely without the worries of getting pregnant and they feel more confident with their partners. In general they are happier about life and look forward to enjoying the rest of their lives. References Dale, O. , Smith, R. , Norlin, J. M. , amp; Chess, W. A. (2009). On the other hands, according to shilbury et al (2009, p.4) gave a brief description of the 7ps. In other hand, there will more implication for that. As of 2010/2011 a years university tuition costs up to  £3,290 so the cost for three years will bring the total to  £9,870 Accommodation for a year can cost as much as  £150 a week or as little as  £65 depending on where you live so you could pay as much as  £9,360 for 3 years accommodation Eating properly for students is last on their list and this is where a lot of money is wasted. If they learnt to cook the easiest meals, they could save money. The average cost of food for 3 years can be  £2,880 Depending on the contract of accommodation, bills may be included but things like phone and internet access may not so budget another  £1,080 for three years worth If your child gets a place on campus, then there will be no travelling costs but if the accommodation is not within walking distance then travelling fees for 3 years could total to  £2,880 Clothes depending on how trendy you want them can cost up to  £1,000 a year making is  £3,000 for three years Toiletries such as shampoo make up, body wash, hair products and creams can reach a whopping  £1,800 Study costs this includes books, study material, trips and stationary will vary depending on the course taken but you could spend over  £800 for the course of 3 years Socialising everyone knows that students like to party so going out every Friday or Saturday night will be the norm. This can add a huge unnecessary cost to the budget even if you dont drink or smoke. Going to the cinema and restaurant also counts so budget up to  £600 a year for this or  £1,800 for three years The cost for three years of university expenses totals to  £33,470 To make it easier, it works out  £11,156 a year or  £929.72 a month to send just one child to university. If you can convince your children to stay home, then obviously the costs will be brought down and the bulk of finances will go into yearly tuition fees. 3.2 analysis of Pieters model 3.3. One way communication 3.4Two way communication 4.5. Personal communication or selling According to Jobber (2007, p. 545) define personal selling as the marketing task that involves face- to face contact with customer. It began in 1929 and continued on, to some degree, until 1939. People lost their jobs, and families lost their homes. The country was in total chaos. Some believed that America could never totally recover. There were several factors that contributed to the start of the Great Depression. One of them was the crash of the stock market. It was 1929, and Republican Herbert Hoover had just been recently elected. During the previous few years, the stock market had been steadily rising, and everyone wanted their piece of the profits. By this time, over 1.5 million people owned stock in various companies. People in every kind of financial situation owned stocks. It seemed that it was an easy way to make money, and most investors were getting rich. The stock market reached its all-time high on September 3, 1929. This caused even more people to buy stock. In October of 1929, however, the stock prices slowly began to decrease. This did not bother the stockholders that much because they just figured that the stocks would go back up like they always did. Unfortunately, these predictions were terribly wrong. On the 24th of October, the stock market plummeted. Shareholders rushed to sell their stocks as quickly as possible, but they found no buyers. The 24th came to be known as "Black Thursday." Five days later there was a "Black Tuesday." That was when more than sixteen million stocks were sold at a great loss. One stock had dropped from one hundred dollars to only three dollars per share. The President and the bankers tried to assure people that there was not a crisis and that it was only a temporary situation, but they could not have been more wrong. When the stock market crashed, it upset the whole economy. Because the stock prices were so low, no one would invest in them. This meant that the large and small companies who depended on the stockholder's support now had major financial problems. Thousands o... .... President Franklin D. Roosevelt had truly done what the American people so desperately needed. He helped save the United States from the worst and most devastating depression in the history of the nation. He had become a national hero, and grew to be so popular that he won the election of 1936 by an even greater majority than the previous one. When the United States entered World War II, unemployment nearly disappeared. Industries became busy again trying to keep up with the war material orders and many young people entered the armed forces to fight for freedom.. The damage from the Great Depression that Roosevelt and his "New Deal" could not fix, the war certainly did. Several insights can be learned from the Great Depression. Perhaps the biggest one is that the United States government can positively influence the economy by creating massive programs. Also, that many Americans have the spirit of compassion which is necessary in order to provide for the less fortunate. Perhaps the greatest lesson taught was that no matter how big the problem, there is always hope for a solution, as long as there is determination, devotion, and a commitment to solving that problem.

Mao Zedong’s Legacy

Mao Zedong (Mao Tse Tung) was a Marxist theorist and soldier who led the Chinese communist revolution, later became the Communist Party’s leader and eventually became the head of state and Party chairman. While he did not entirely rule China on his own, he can be regarded as the modern China’s principal architect.[1]   Mao is largely credited for the programs the Great Leap Forward and the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution. Under Chairman Mao, China’s communism ideologically deviated from that practiced in the Soviet Union on account of the emphasis placed by the former on the role of the countryside peasantry in the communist revolution, a factor ignored in the Soviet paradigm centered on the urban classes. The Great Leap was an economic and social plan of Communist China under Mao Zedong to rapidly industrialize the then principally agricultural-based country. The plan hoped to modernize the communist state by turning it into an industrial-based economy.   It was however an economic debacle and aggravated by natural disasters, leading to the starvation and death of millions. The Cultural Revolution, on the other, was designed by Mao to get back at Party members who wanted to undermine his leadership.[2] Mao's policies were a mix of successes and failures. Millions died largely because of the inherent flaws of the Great Leap economic policy. Millions were executed under the reforms of the Cultural Revolution but in return, millions of proletariat farmers were awarded their own land to till. Among the long-term consequences of Mao's Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution policies was the decade-long widespread disruption in urban China of the education of many Chinese, giving their generation career and productivity disadvantages.[3] But Mao's programs did leave lasting advantages for China, including the legacy of a considerably successful space program, nuclear weapon capability and the acquisition of a strategic territory. [4]While the death toll under his leadership totaled to millions of Chinese who died either by executions or of famine, the architectural designing of China under his rule placed the country on the road to being a regional economic and political power that she is today. China is in fact currently being perceived by no less than the United States as a potential military threat. Pan, Esther.[5] References Giles, John.; Park, Albert; Zhang, Juwei. Essay on how the three field system had to change essays

Essay on how the three field system had to change essays There were some advantages to the three field system such as: 2. There was co-operative faming - everyone worked together, 3. Commoners rights meant ability of all to graze their animals, 4. People could work for others who had more land to harvest. These were good things but people wanted change because: 1. Much time was wasted travelling between strips, 2. The land was not distributed fairly, 3. There were tensions between land owners or proper use of land, 4. Strips of grass between farm strips wasted much ground, 5. There was no room for Innervations. Everybody thought that there was a big need for change and they came up with some ideas: 1. The land could not continue to be fragmented, 3. The population was growing so there was more demand for food, 4. Towns and cities needed food that this system did not provide. these however never put into the rules of the three field system and the normal way carried on as usual. The people with less land and little money problems increased more when the commissioners made a parchment that was forty pages long and three feet by two feet in size explaining the new rules of the three field system. They said that the squire got well over 1000 acres, the parson got 400 acres, three wealthy villagers got 200 acres and the poor farmers got half an acre each. Also there was a rule where everyone built enclosures around their land. (There land was now all together, not in different strips) Because these enclosures had to built, the villagers had to pay towards it. They had to pay a sum of 30 each, a huge amount of money in their time. No poor villagers could afford this and were beside themselves with worry. ...

The Landlady by Roald Dahl Essays

The Landlady by Roald Dahl Essays The Landlady by Roald Dahl Paper The Landlady by Roald Dahl Paper Essay Topic: Literature The story of The Landlady by Roald Dahl begins with a male character called Billy Weaver. Billy Weaver is a young, aspiring lad. He is only seventeen and has come from London to Bath to find a new exciting life as a worker in the Head Office. He looks for a place to stay and Bath and someone recommends the ‘Bull and Gate’, a pub with a mysterious old landlady†¦ Billy Weaver dreams of being like the workers at the Head Office, with their swift and brisk movements and high success in life, he has even attempted being brisk any movements that he does! The landlady is a mysterious character; she comes across as an old helpless woman who seems like she wouldn’t mind some company. She also owns the Bull and Gate, and enjoys stuffing dead ‘pets’, as she claims, â€Å"I stuff all my little pets myself when they pass away†. Roald Dahl builds up the atmosphere of the story by setting the scene in a normal way but slowly increasing the tension level. Nearer to the beginning of the middle of the story, Roald releases some of Billy’s thoughts about what he thinks about the Bull and Gate, â€Å"Beer and Darts in the evenings and lot’s of people to talk to†. By reading this quote we can see that Billy is social as he likes to meet and talk to new people and also have a round of friendly darts with someone. Roald makes the reader feel like Billy has been sort of, entrapped by a poster, â€Å"Each word was like a large black eye staring at him through the glass†, like it’s a supernatural force of some sort. The landlady also creates a lot of tension; she answers the door at once, â€Å"it must’ve been at once because he hadn’t even had time to take his finger off the doorbell! †, which is unusual as you normally leave about a minute before you answer a door. Also by explaining that she only had a few guests, that coincidently fitted Billy’s description, it shows that she is plotting something against him†¦ ‘The Landlady’ fits in the description of a short story almost perfectly! ‘The Landlady’ isn’t too complex and fits into a simple plot, in a short amount of space. The setting and main story and characters are introduced quite early on in the story so that readers aren’t left hanging and confused or even without a setting as the story doesn’t go on for all too long. It also has the compulsory beginning, middle and end and doesn’t have any prequels or sequels to it. I think that ‘The Landlady’ ties in with the links of a short story very well. I really enjoyed reading ‘The Landlady’ and also hoped for there to be a sequel so that we could find out about all of the gory bits of the story and where she placed Billy’s stuffed body! Although sequels do not tie in with the links of a short story so it wouldn’t have fit in properly. I really enjoyed the plot of the story and never would’ve guessed what the landlady would’ve done! Instead of ruining the surprise and telling you what this mysterious woman did, I’ll let you read The Landlady for yourselves. Enjoy!
